"Man, I thought you always carry your grigri and a backup grigri on those trad climbs? You can rap down double ropes if you bring 2... then if you bring another 2, you can use them for backups instead of prussics. I usually bring 8 grigris, in case my partner forgets his set. - Jason Liebgott."

Hoodys and T-shirts...payment!!

Hoodys= €15
T-shirts= €10
Contact her on 0851324436 to agree on a meeting place.

Nominations

Just to ensure all members of the club understand that the nomination of Darragh Sweetnam as captain is simply a joke (many reasons why he can't run...mainly being from Trinity) and Jonathan Redmond is running uncontested.
Also Katie McLoughlin is no longer running for Secretary.

Alice O'Connor urgently needs to know who wants hoodys and t-shirts and what sizes. Please contact her at 0851324436

Hoodies and T-shirts

Could anyone planning on getting a hoody or t-shirt please notify Alice O'Connor IMMEDIATELY on 0851324436.
She also needs to know what sizes everyone wants.

Secretary: Monika Bolger

Training and Development Officer: Jason Morris

Club Hoodies & T-shirts

Hey all,

As Alice is out of action for the next while, she will be sorting out club hoodies and t-shirts down at the wall for the next while. Catherine Repko, Leo's girlfriend, did a cool design for us (two boulderers heading off into the sunset!) - she also did the intervarsities t-shirts.

T-shirts will probably cost €10, hoodies €15. That might change though as we have yet to order them and we might do some kind of deal on both if ye're lucky ;D .

Please let Alice know what colours etc people want, we'll go with whatever seems most popular. You can also put your name down for one at the wall this week and next.

I think purple....I like purple...and orange....oooo, colours, exciting....boing!

UCD Mountaineering Club Ball 2011

UCD Mountaineering Ball
It’s time to whip off them harnesses, wipe the chalk off our hands and get on our ‘glad rags’ for the Mountaineering event of the year!
On 1st April 2011(we promise it's not an April fool’s joke... ;-) ) in the lavish Stillorgan Park Hotel we will be hosting, what I hope to be, the best Ball yet!
With tickets at a recessionary price of only €40, there are no excuses for missing out!
The bbq buffet style meal( yes lads, LOTS of meat nom nom nom!) commences at an Irish 7.00p.m. followed by a band, DJ and lots of fun, frolics and banter!!
A LATE BAR has been organised and we are expecting a guest appearance from the legendary ‘BLUE COCKTAIL’ (for freshers like myself this is the complementary free drink on arrival- watch out for Clare Ryan who has been known to pilfer at least 5 of these drinks at a previous ball!!
Tickets will go on sale from this Friday 12th March and are available for payment and collection during climbing club hours. Get yours quick to secure a place – if you can’t get to the wall send me an email and I’ll put aside a ticket.

If anyone has suggestions of songs for the night, please e-mail them to me as I am compiling a playlist to forward to the DJ!
Kind regards,
Katie McLoughlin, Club secretary

Midterm- NO club hours

THERE ARE NO CLUB HOURS DURING THE MIDTERM. This means members should pay a mere €3.50 on entry to the sports centre. Please don't be chancing your arm and waiting for those working at the wall to ask you to pay, it is rude and gives the club a bad image!

UCD MC AGM 2011

Hey everyone!

It’s that time of year again, when the evenings start getting longer, it's finally warm enough to stay in the quarry for over half an hour without getting hypothermia and it’s all looking rosy until you realise that it’s only a few short weeks to the exams and you have yet to open a book…oh dear! It’s also the end of the UCDMC year, which means we take a look back over the last few months of mad adventures and, most importantly, gear ourselves up for the year to come.

This involves the election of a new committee for 2011/2012. All UCDMC members can cast a vote. All members who are UCD students, or who are leaving UCD this summer, are eligible to be elected. The committee positions open for nominations are:

-Captain (To be nominated as Captain, you must have previously served on the committee)

-Meets Secretary;

-Treasurer;

-Climbing & Equipment Officer;

-Correspondence Secretary;

-Assistant Meets Secretary;

-Training & Development Officer.

The constitution, which is available on www.ucdmountaineeringclub.com, outlines what each position entails. Those of us on the committee this year will also happily answer any questions as regards responsibilities etc. You must get a member to propose you and another to second the nomination. You then must sign the paper yourself and either give it to me directly, or put it into the UCDMC Post Box (Number 63) in the Student Centre on or before March 30th 2011(April 9th at latest).

Best Regards,
Katie McLoughlin,
Club Secretary

Also huge Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Intervarsities!! :-)

Wall closed and Intervarsities!

The climbing wall will be closed from tomorrow Thursday 24Feb and will re-open approx 8th March!

As some of you may already know, we are hosting the Climbing Intervarsities this year at the UCD Climbing wall from the 25th -27th February 2011. This is a climbing competition open to all Third Level climbing/mountaineering clubs in the Ireland.

We have created a special website for the event - check out ucdmountaineeringclub.com/intervarsities/

Even if you don't want to participate in the competition it would be great to have a few supporters around and the evening entertainment is well worth checking out!
