Equipment

Having the right equipment for the occasion is an important part of mountaineering and makes the experience more enjoyable & less risky. We've put together some lists to help you select the correct equipment for the various activities.

The club has a pool of equipment that is available to active members who comply with our safety statement. What this means is that we will only give you equipment if we think that you are experienced enough to use it properly without supervision.

The club owns:

  • Harnesses
  • Belay plates
  • Carabiners; HMS screwgate, D-type screwgate, wire-gate etc.
  • Climbing ropes
  • Climbing guide books and maps
  • Mountaineering helmets
  • Passive and active protection devices; nuts, slings, tri-cams, cams etc.
  • Extenders
  • Technical and non-technical ice axes
  • Various types of crampons
  • Ice screws and assorted snow and ice protection equipment

Club members attending the wall during exclusive club time can borrow equipment for the duration of the session. All other gear must be borrowed with the approval of the climbing officer and usually requires a deposit. If you want to borrow equipment e-mail the committee.
