Beginner's Information

1. How to Join

  • Join at the Sports Expo during Freshers Week(14th to 18th September) in the first semester or on Refresher's Day in the second semester.
  • Join at the climbing wall in the Sports Centre, at the back of Hall A during club hours. You can do this for the first few weeks of term in September and October.
  • Join on a club hike early in the year, you'll need to have proper equipment on the day to take part in the hike.
  • Missed the boat? Email us and we'll see what we can do.

2. How much is it?

Student or Staff: €15 - Basic Membership OR €22 - Basic Membership plus Mountaineering Ireland, (MI) Membership and MI Insurance

Graduate: €45 - Basic Membership plus Mountaineering Ireland, (MI) Membership and MI Insurance

3. What do I need?

  • Hiking: waterproof boots, waterproof outer clothes, warm clothes, hat and gloves, torch, food and water, pen-knife for amputations. WARNING: NO JEANS, (You will not be allowed to hike in jeans). After the beginner's weekend you must have a pair of hiking boots to hike with the club.
  • Climbing Indoors: t-shirt, shorts/pyjamas, balls, climbing shoes. Runners are fine if you don't have climbing shoes.

4. When are the first events?

Beginner's Weekend, IMC Hut, Wicklow, 25th -27th September

Note

  • You must be a student, staff member or graduate of UCD to become a new member of UCDMC. If you're not, unfortunately you can't join. Sorry! we don't like it that way but unfortunately it's the rules of UCD.
  • All types of membership include cover under the club insurance policy which has limited cover on official club activities. We highly recommend that you also join MCI and avail of their insurance scheme as it covers a wider range of scenarios. Click here to obtain information about the various insurance schemes that are available.
