"It's not advisable to drink too much strong liquors while climbing in the Alps. If, however, you are going to fall over a cliff, it's advisable to be thoroughly intoxicated when you do so. - Anonymous English alpinist"

Going to the Alps

Each year club members travel to the Alps to try their hand at mountaineering in some of the most famous locations in Europe. Most members that regularly go to the Alps would attend the Mountaineering Ireland Alpine Meet. This is an annual event and UCDMC generally has a strong presence at the meet. Many budding alpinists will take part in some of the courses that are available, the most popular being: Introduction to Alpine Mountaineering. Other members will meet up and undertake routes at their level, overall the atmosphere is mighty and everyone has a fantastic time. Listening to the day's events, epics, near misses can be great fun, not to mention the huge social aspect to the trip. The Mountaineering Ireland Meet is also a chance to meet other mountaineers from Ireland and gain the advice of the UIAGM guides who are present throughout the meet and as usual only too happy to offer advice on routes and conditions.

A suggested equipment list for the Mountaineering Ireland meet is available in the equipment section.
