About UCDMC

UCDMC is UCD's Mountaineering Club, (strangely enough). The club was officially formed in 1967, although it has been operating informally since 1961. Click here to read more about the club's history. The membership of the club is comprised of student's, staff and graduates of UCD. If you are interested in joining then click here to find out how to join and read about being a beginner. Are you a beginnner? If so, some your questions may be answered in the FAQs page and our beginner's page.

UCDMC is the largest club of its kind in Ireland and provides guided outdoor hikes, access to indoor climbing facilities, organised weekends to areas of interest and other social events. It also has a website, (presumably you are aware of this) and an online forum for keeping up to date with what's going on. Member's can use the club to meet up with other member's and organise their own activities.

Part of the club's overall mission is to improve the skills of its members so that the members can undertake their own mountaineering activities and do so safely. Mountaineering is dangerous if you don't know what your doing, so training members up and showing members how to use equipment correctly is very important to the club. The club also offers organised training, (with professional bodies) for its members and you can read about this in the training section, click here to read about training.

The club also owns and maintains a store of mountaineering equipment, that members can borrow in exchange for a deposit. Check out the club equipment section of the site for more details.

Above all, it's about having fun so go on out there and enjoy yourself!
