Beta coaching

24/01/2012

UCD Mountaineering club would like to present a new training programme available to all mountaineering club members. The ßeta Coaches are two of Ireland’s best and most cutting edge rock climbers. Michael Duffy and Ricky Bell have between them over 30 years experience climbing rocks. That’s a lot of rockovers...
They’ve pushed Irish standards in bouldering and traditional climbing and are now bringing their climbing and coaching skills together.
The ßeta Coach is fun and constructive climbing coaching - from basic movement skills at beginner level to high performance training programs, The Beta Coach can help you realise your full climbing potential through a range of workshops and performance coaching sessions which are tailored to your individual climbing needs.

We will be running a Five week programme, leading right up to the thursday brefore the intervarsities, so ideal for a beginner or advanced climber wishing to improve there skills for the comp!

Each session is an hour long, and one session a week for five weeks. We've been offered an incredible rate for the 5 weeks. The club sponsers 60% of your training so each student pays only 25 EURO for the 5 weeks. This is really fantastic value, breaking it down its 5 euro an hour! The majority of climbing coaches charge €25+ for a single hour so this is an oppertunity not to be missed.

Sessions will be provisionally held tuesday and thursday between 1pm to 2pm, and 2pm to 3pm, Starting next tuesday the 24th!!

So if you've been climbing for three months, or three years (or three decades) this is a way to improve your climbing and meet Irelands most awesome climbers.

Please email ucdmountaineeringclub@gmail.com ASAP (today if possible) if you would like to sign up, there are only 20 spaces so get your name in now! please also send in which time and day suits.

Kind regards

Jonathan

50th Anniversary Mountaineering Ball

30/03/2012 19:00

Hey,

As most of you know, 2012 is the 50th Anniversary of the Club, and a great time to celebrate its achievements and those of its members over the past half a century!

In order to do this, we are hosting a 50th Anniversary Ball on the 30th March, 2012 in the D4 Berkeley Hotel, Ballsbridge. This would be a fantastic opportunity for the many generations of members to come together and remember the good times spent with the UCD Mountaineering Club, so we would be delighted if you could come along.

We are looking for any old photos from the club to make a slide show for the night, so if you would like to send in any at all to ucdmountaineeringclub@gmail.com this would be greatly appreciated!

There will be a wine reception, 3 course sit down meal and many surprises in store. Tickets are on sale for €50 per person.

Hope to see you there!

UCDMC HOODIES!!!

17/02/2012

Who wants a UCDMC hoodie??!!

We are gonna be getting a FIRE/RED hoodie, with JET BLACK lining in the inner hood.

The UCDMC logo embroidered on the left breast in black thread.

These will be selling for ONLY €20!!

Would be cool if we all had them heading down to the Intervarsities!! I will be taking orders until February 17th at the wall/hikes so if you would like one give in your €20 and size to a committee member.

Sizes available are S, M, L, and XL. (S / 36” M / 40” L / 44” XL / 48”)
(If you have long arms I would suggest getting a bigger size)

Thanks,
Monika

A Captains Welcome

On behalf of the 2011/2012 committee, I would like to give a warm welcome to all UCD mountaineering club members, past and current, and to those who are signing up for their first time in the coming weeks to the club. This year we are celebrating our 50th anniversary, so we are hoping to have an absolutely fantastic year of activities, fun and adventure. Whether you're into climbing, hiking, scrambling, alpinism, winter mountaineering, or even just a casual climb at our climbing wall, join us for what’s hoping to be the one of the best years yet in the history of the club.
Myself and the committee will be running trips throughout the year, home and abroad. We will be travelling to many parts of Ireland, Wales and Scotland to climb, hike, and of course to have a ball of a time. The Mountaineering club is a fantastic place to meet new friends, learn something new, and travel to scenic landscapes, in Ireland and across the seas. Erasmus students and non irish students particularly benefit from the club as it is an ideal and fun way to view the Irish country side, a fast way to meet new friends and have an adventure.
The club is fortunate to have a large number of experienced, friendly and enthusiastic members, so there will always be someone around to help and pass on their knowledge to new members. So please don’t hesitate to ask! There will be heavily subsidised training for all of our members, whether for climbing, hiking, or instructing skills, we offer a wide range of training courses for whatever level you aim for.
As Edmond Hilary once said, “ Climbing is the only cure for gravity”, join us on our year around adventure, and let me encourage you to make the most of our club, the people in it and the great opportunities we provide for you by getting involved and stuck in! It is an honour and privilege to have been elected captain of UCDMC and I would like to wish you a successful, safe and enjoyable year.
