Climbing Intervarsities 2010

When?? 27th and 28th of February

We had one super weekend last year. This year, it is on in NUIG Galway. There will probably be a crew heading down Friday night. Usually bouldering on the Saturday, Top ropes and leads on the Sunday. And much partying in the evenings. How it works is every college brings millions of people and everybody climbs and has fun. The score for each college is based on their best male, female, beginner male and beginner female, so the more the merrier! We won last year!! So now is our chance to get rid of the big boulder or keep it in the cupboard for another year....... More details on www.nuigmc.com/intervarsities..... Here is a wee taster......

UCDMC Scottish Winter Meet 2010

11th and 12th of March

This year, the club is offering an introductory course in Winter Mountaineering. The course will be held in Aviemore in Scotland and will be led by a UIAGM guide, (the highest possible qualification in mountaineering).

There will also be a group of people from the club testing their mettle on some routes in the area, so Scotland veterans are welcome to come along and share in the craic.

The Couloir, Coire An Lochain, Grade 1

The Course

The course is aimed at committed members who are interested in improving their skills with a view to returning to Scotland for winter walking and climbing or heading to the Alps to tackle simple snow and ice routes on big mountains.

There are only a limited number of places and the course costs €60. This is just the course. You must apply for this course through the training officer via an application form, (click here to download the form).

Some Logistics

Loads from the club have driven out or flown and trained it before. So chat to Jonno or Dec about getting there. Aviemore youth hostel is were most people stay. Ether way you will probably spend the guts off €150 on grub, bed for 3 nights, petrol and your ferry.

Jacob's Ladder, Coire An t'Sneachda, Grade 1

For you??

Hillwalking experience, good fitness and appropriate clothing are essential. This includes many of the items that are listed on the general Scotland Equipment List. Note: This is a general list and a more specific list will be posted at a later date. Technical equipment, if booked early can be loaned from the club on deposit. Items that can loaned are: Axes, Crampons, Helmets, Harnesses, etc. You cannot loan boots from the club and any boots you buy should be checked first for compatibility with club crampons.
